Attorney | Lawyer
In the United States, these terms are used interchangeably. However, there is a very important distinction. While it usually makes no difference if you are talking with an attorney, we thought we should clear it up just in case.
A "lawyer" or 'lawyers" is/are someone who has graduated from an accredited law school. This means that he or she has a law degree. They may or may not practice or engage in the practice of law.
An "attorney" or "attorneys" is/are someone who is licensed to practice law. It is a person who is a practitioner before the court. While it is technically the preferred term in the United States, it really does not make that much of a deal.
So there is your trivia - the difference between a lawyer and an attorney.

Why Hire An Attorney?
This is a question that we get frequently and, quite honestly, it is a loaded question. If you ask a doctor or carpenter or plumber if you should hire a plumber then, honestly, the answer that you get will probably be "yes".
So here is my answer, we have gone to school, passed the Bar and practiced law for many years. This is our job. While we are sure that hundreds if not thousands of people represent themselves in Virginia and probably do a decent job, the reality is that we would like to think that we can do a better job. So, in other words, if you believe that we can do your job just as well as you can do yours then please do not hire an attorney. And if you would even just like to check, we do offer a free consultation.
