Brian A. Thomasson, Esq., is a licensed Virginia attorney who has been practicing in Hampton Roads since 1998.  He graduated from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1997 and was licensed to practice law in Ohio that same year.  After having returned to Virginia, Brian was licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  In 1999, Brian was admitted to the District of Columbia bar by the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.  Brian’s practice areas include domestic relations law, personal injury, wills and estates, trust matters, criminal and traffic defense, representation of children as a Guardian ad Litem, and other general practice areas.  In 2015, Brian was selected and sent to attend the Parent Seminar in Washington, D.C., hosted by the American Bar Association for his work as a Guardian ad Litem.

In the December 2016 edition of Virginia Business, Brian was nominated and selected by attorneys across Virginia as one of Virginia’s Legal Elite. This honor has continued for several years thereafter.

In 2017, Brian was selected for inclusion in the nationally recognized Super Lawyers group which was voted on by other attorneys. An honor that has continued for multiple years thereafter.

He also selected by other lawyers for Coastal Virginia Magazine's Top Lawyers in the categories of (1) Adoption, Marital and Family Law, (2) Civil Trial Law and (3) Criminal Defense. Brian has continued to receive this honor for years after.

Also in 2017, Brian A. Thomasson, P.L.C. was voted in the inaugural Best of Business Awards by Coastal Virginia Business Magazine as Silver Award Winner in the category of Best Law Firm and Gold Award Winner in the category of Best Small Business.

He is also a published author having written for The Journal of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association which was reprinted in another jurisdiction.

As evidence of his commitment, focus and dedication, Brian holds multiple blackbelts in various styles.  He has earned first degree black belts in Shorin Ryu (Okinawan) karate, American Freestyle Karate, second degree black belts in Modakwon Tae Kwon Do and Sport Karate, and third degree blackbelts in Modokwon Tae Kwon Do and Sport Karate.  Brian and his son have competed in multiple events, both individually and as a team, and have won many tournaments including Grand Champion.  Lastly, Brian and his son also have competed on the World Axe Throwing League.

Brian has also been recognized in the media.  In 1999, Virginia Lawyer's Weekly printed two (2) of his cases as part of the Top 20 Opinions of 1999.  Also, he has been recognized as part of the team obtaining a multi-million dollar result for a client.  Brian also has been part of the team (and lead counsel of record) for a million dollar settlement and part of the team that obtained the, at that time, largest accident verdict in the history of Virginia ($46 million).  Additionally, Brian has successfully represented clients who have garned local an dnational media coverage.

Brian has been accepted to the Bars of Virginia, Ohio and Washington, D.C.  He is licensed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

During the course of his practice, Brian has handled many different types of cases.  At times it seems that there has not been a practice area that Brian has not litigated or come across.  These include personal injury, traffic matters, family law (divorce, custody, child support, visitation, adoption, etc), criminal cases, bankruptcy, contract disputes, real estate and wills.

Very important to know is that Brian is a single father.  Having gone through a divorce and custody case he offers a unique perspective that most other lawyers do not have for their cases.
